Ok, so I was invited to an Adelaide Cup charity event for The Epilepsy Centre over the weekend. I must admit as excited as I was at receiving the invite, I think the panic of what to wear was slightly more intense! My “going out” wardrobe is a little bit meagre; I am jeans girl most of the time. The brief was “wear something red”…. I just don’t wear red as a general rule, so my panic levels were through the roof! Added to that, was the stress of making sure I could squeeze the extra hair colour appointment in before the day. (First world problems, I know…)
After mulling over everything for a while, I in my usual panicked style left everything to the week before. I arrived at the decision to wear a dress I already had stashed away, not red, but black and neutral that would work perfectly with red accessories. This was the perfect compromise for me, except I didn’t have any red accessories! (My friend Kate to the rescue, who has more accessories than any shop I have ever walked into and in every colour imaginable!) Thanks Kate!
The issue of the hair colour was solved by the wonderful Tracy from Urban Spirit Hair Design, who I have been going to for years; she squeezed me in for a touch up of my colour. As nice as it is to be told by my boys I have sparkly hair in the sunshine, it’s not the look I am going for and definitely not good for a day at the races
Sophie and her team at Shantai sorted me out with a fabulous pedicure complete with foot massage and bright red toenails! I think I may have briefly dozed off in the massage chair while I was there! So relaxing and I never sit still for that amount of time.
Now for the bit I would not normally share with the world, but here it goes….. I have not worn this dress for a while and let’s just say, the hot cross buns with lashings of butter I have been scoffing since January have not been kind to me. Thank goodness Michelle from Blackwood Lingerie sells the BEST shapewear PHEW! Michelle you saved me from having to go dress shopping, so thank you.
So even after all the pre event stress I put on myself I had a ball, met some amazing people, got roped into a last minute fashion parade (so embarrassing!) ate some amazing food, although the shapewear was restricting my breathing, I could still fit the mushroom arancini balls in.
I hope you all had a great long weekend.
